The Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce held their annual Tip Up Town (TUT) volunteer appreciation dinner on April 13th. The dinner was described by Chamber Executive Director Linda Tuck as being “Another way to show appreciation for everything that the volunteers do.” The volunteers who assist in the chamber office, the beverage tent, badge booths, and more, according to Tuck, help make TUT possible.
Jimmy Debo, at the request of Tuck, blessed the meal.
Janet Roelofs, one of the many volunteers described her start with volunteering at TUT before moving to the Houghton Lake area. Roelofs has been volunteering for the past 6 years since first helping with her sister Sandy Egbers. Roelofs described how Egbers would ask when she was up to visit if she wanted to work.
Following the meal Tuck thanked the volunteers for everything that they do. Tuck also recognized the volunteers that assisted in the chamber office. The chamber office volunteers include Marilou MacKenzie, Sue Ambrose, and Bob Spaulding.
Tuck spoke of the addition of the snow drag races as a new event for the 2013 TUT. Describing how they received positive feedback about the event and hoped to bring it back next year and extend it an additional day. Tuck also reminded the attendees of the theme for TUT 2014 Michigan Made, which was announced at the 2013 kick off. Kathy Pease was announced as the badge design winner. Cheyenne Plewa’s design was chosen for the medallion. The final announcement was the release of a special edition badge with only 1500 available and a grand prize of $5000.
The evening concluded with the door prize drawings. The final prize given away was a carved bear won by Janice and David Grzywacz.
