On Friday, January 11th, Sabrina Cunningham’s dream became a reality. For the first time in her life, she opened the doors to her own hair salon. After searching for a trendy and chic name, Babes and Blowdryers was born!
Cunningham is a recent graduate from the Kirtland Community College (KCC) Cosmetology program. KCC’s programs in this particular field require determination and dedication and Cunning ham possesses both qualities. “I know it sounds girlie, but I have always been good at hair and makeup, so I finally made the decision to make money doing what I love.” That falls right in line with what career experts say regarding finding a job that you love meaning you will never work a day in your life. Passion, skill and desire are all needed to excel in the world of salons, and Cunningham’s “mentor,” Paulette Spiess has no doubt that she will be a huge success.
Spiess has been in the business for 19 years now, having worked at the Hairloft and All Styling Studios. She is even a licensed instructor. While one might think that Spiess would be the boss, she is doing what is called “renting a booth” from Cunningham. Working together will allow Cunningham to gain more experience and gain exposure to a loyal client base.
Spiess stated that she has all the faith in the world in her friend Cunningham. “I jumped at the chance to help Sabrina out and work for her. I know she will make it and be huge in this area.” She continued, “Sabrina is the only other person I have ever found that has the same, or more, passion for this business as I do.”
Both having families of their own, they are gearing the business around the family atmosphere. Babies, kids, teens, parents and senior citizens are all welcomed and will be treated like their own family when in the salon.
Current services provided by Cunningham are cut, color, textured services (perms, etc.) and light waxing. Spiess offers head to toe services including manicures, pedicures and facials. Appointments are recommended for non-hair services, and can be easily made by calling the salon. The hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00AM to 6:00PM and Saturday 9:00AM to 2:00PM. They are located at 1036 W. West Branch Road in Prudenville. They are easy to find being next to Putter Golf and in between Dr. McElroy’s office and the New Hope Chapel. The salon’s phone number is (989) 202-2014.
